(St. Catharines, Ontario) On the morning of Tuesday, December 17, 2013, Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre loaded up their patient transfer bus filled with coats, food and toys collected for St. Catharines-Thorold Community Care.
Staff at Hotel Dieu Shaver have been collecting donations since November 4th for an internal campaign to “Help Fill the Bus".
Hotel Dieu Shaver unloaded over 100 adults and children's winter jackets, over 50 new toys and 6 barrels full of food to Community Care to distribute to families in need.
“We are so thrilled," said Betty Lou Souter, CEO for Community Care, “With the recent snowfall we received over the weekend, these items could not have come at a more pressing time."
Staff and board members at Hotel Dieu Shaver had been riffling through their closets and cupboards looking for items they could give up since November with the hopes of surpassing their 2012 contribution. Donations were continuing to pour through the door as they loaded the bus.
“I am extremely proud of our staff for their support," said Jane Rufrano, CEO of Hotel Dieu Shaver. “As a publicly funded organization that relies on financial donations, we know the importance of giving back to our community, especially during this time of year."
Others wanting to donate to Community Care can drop off items at the centre at 12 North Street, or call 905-685-1349 for more information. Coats should be in good condition.
