Effective January 27, 2022, Hotel Dieu Shaver will require all staff and physicians to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject only to limited legislated exemptions. This approach has been adopted in concert with other hospital partners throughout the HNHBB region and Ontario.
“Hotel Dieu Shaver’s goal has always been to reach 100% COVID-19 vaccination status among all staff and physicians,” says Lynne Pay, CEO at Hotel Dieu Shaver. “As a leader in healthcare, HDS remains committed to providing the safest possible environment for our staff, physicians and patients and full mandated vaccination is the next step to ensuring we reach that goal.”
To date, and despite ongoing education, Hotel Dieu Shaver’s vaccination rate has remained constant at less than 89% for the last several weeks.
In order to comply with Hotel Dieu Shaver’s mandatory vaccination timeline, those staff and physicians who remain unvaccinated must receive their second dose by January 13th. Those who have not submitted proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 at that time will be placed on an unpaid leave of absence. Staff and physicians who fail to provide proof of full vaccination status by January 27th, may be subject to further disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or cessation of hospital privileges.
In addition to a mandatory vaccination requirement for staff and physicians, Hotel Dieu Shaver will be implementing a mandatory vaccination policy for visitors subject to exceptional circumstances, the details of which will be developed and communicated in the coming weeks.
