Position: Recreation Therapy Assistant
Position Type: Casual Part-Time Job Share
SALARY RANGE: $28.92 – $30.44 per hour
The Recreation Therapy Assistant works with the Director and other interprofessional team members to plan and implement safe group and individual leisure/recreation activities for patients. The incumbent is responsible for tasks related to patient/staff safety such as equipment pre-use inspections, activity hazard identification and regular communication with interprofessional team. They will safely operate an accessible vehicle for patient outings. Administrative support tasks related to promoting the department’s services is also completed by the incumbent. The Recreation Therapy Assistant will collect accurate workload data and document work completed in the patients record.
Our ideal candidate:
- Plan, implement, promote, coordinate, and evaluate group/individual goal-driven recreation programs and outings for Inpatients
- Coordinate and monitor students/volunteers that are assigned to assist with the program
- Records accurate and timely patient records and workload statistics
- Possess excellent organizational skills
- Have the ability to work both independently and to function as a team member
- Porter patient/residents to and from programs as required
- Other job duties as required
The successful candidate will possess:
- A two-year Diploma in Recreation Therapy from a recognized college
- Recent related experience in a rehabilitation setting required, preferably with an adult population
- A valid class “F” driver’s licence
- Standard First Aid and CPR (level C) required
- The capability of initiating action and flexibility in day-to-day work
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Comfortable utilizing computers for documents, workload and patient records
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
