Position: Nurse Educator
Position Type: Temporary Full-Time


REQUIREMENTS

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated teaching skills including needs assessment, education design, and definition of educational objectives, curriculum development, implementation, and outcome evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating new education programs and developing ideas for program design.
  • Demonstrated advanced patient assessment skills.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of rehabilitation, complex care and geriatric patient populations and the application of admission criteria to these patient groups.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of various teaching strategies, resources and evaluation tools.
  • Must have a good knowledge and understanding of the principles of Adult Education and the application of these principles in the development, implementation, and evaluation of education programs.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of the Standards of Practice as it relates to complex care, rehabilitation, and geriatric nursing.
  • Must have facilitation skills sufficient to co-ordinate educational conferences with a team approach, as well as excellent leadership abilities and excellent problem solving capabilities sufficient to act as a resource to nursing and other health care professionals.
  • Superior leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Must have excellent English language verbal and written communication skills sufficient to communicate detailed information effectively to patients, patients’ families, other health professionals, physicians, etc.
  • Must possess human relations skills sufficient to project a caring, supportive, and empathetic image to provide support to patients and their families and to develop a trusting rapport with patients and their family members.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of evidence based practice as it relates to complex care, rehabilitation and geriatric nursing, health care delivery models as well as knowledge of development and implementation of clinical pathways.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote evidence based practice in the clinical areas.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to follow-up on information independently, and the ability to prioritize work in an environment with regular interruptions and changing priorities.
  • Must have computer skills sufficient to input, edit, and retrieve information required for patient referrals as well as education development.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a minimum of Bachelor of Science in Nursing combined with extensive knowledge and background in complex care, rehabilitation, and geriatric nursing. Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Must possess a current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Must possess current certification in BCLS and Advanced Nursing Skills. Must have advanced assessment skills as evidenced by completion of an assessment course or a combination of experience and education
  • Must possess knowledge related to advanced nursing competencies
  • Incumbent will be required to write and pass a medication competency test.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three to five years clinical experience in complex care, rehabilitation and geriatric nursing
  • Formal teaching experience and program development in both classroom and clinical areas.
  • Good attendance and work record
  • Experience in research methodology

Other:

  • May be scheduled other hours as required.
