Hourly Rate of Pay: $31.44 - $33.09

The Communication Disorders Assistant is responsible for a wide range of delegated client care activities, maintenance of overall appearance of treatment areas and administrative support tasks related to effective functioning of the department. The Communications Disorders Assistant works under the direction of the Speech-Language Pathologists.
Our ideal candidate:
- Will work independently providing therapy to meet the SLP’s goals.
- Will work collaboratively with other Health care professionals within an interprofessional team.
- Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by and under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist or Audiologist.
- Must have the ability to work creatively to find materials to meet therapeutic goals.
- Will provide quality treatment on a one-to-one basis or in groups when working with individuals with complex speech and/or physical impairments.
- Document patients’ progress toward meeting established objectives, as stated in the treatment plan; and reports this information to the supervising therapist.
- Perform pure tone screening when appropriate.
- Prepare client and/or room for assessment and treatment groups, including the set-up of clinical equipment and materials needed and maintaining the neatness and tidiness of the assessment and treatment areas.
- Accept other job duties as required.
The successful candidate will possess:
- A graduate diploma or certificate from a Communicative Disorders program at a recognized College.
- Must demonstrate excellent English language communication skills - verbal, non-verbal, and written.
- Organizational and planning skills and the ability to work independently sufficient to complete multiple tasks concurrently.
- Computer skills sufficient to generate reports and enter patient related data.
- Effective time management skills.
- The ability to assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respecting their confidentiality and privacy and communicating in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Human relations skills sufficient to develop effective therapeutic relationships with patients and their families and to develop and maintain positive working relationships with physicians and other members of the health care team.
- The ability to organize work and determine appropriate priorities.
- Flexibility, self-directedness and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills.
- Good computer skills, with the ability to learn to use new software.
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset.
